Suicide Prevention Resources

The It’s Up to Us campaign is designed to empower San Diegans to talk openly about mental illness, recognize symptoms, utilize local resources and seek help. By raising awareness and providing access to local resources, we aim to inspire wellness, reduce stigma and prevent suicide.


Provides emergency assessment and referral for individuals in behavioral health crisis who come to the attention of law enforcement through phone calls from community members or in-field law enforcement request for emergency assistance. Pairs licensed mental health clinicians with uniformed law enforcement officers/deputies. Clinicians are also partnered with law enforcement homeless outreach teams to provide proactive preventative connection to services.

We can all help prevent suicide. The Lifeline provides 24/7, free and confidential support for people in distress, prevention and crisis resources for you or your loved ones, and best practices for professionals.

The California Youth Crisis Line (CYCL) operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week as the statewide emergency response system for youth (ages 12-24) and families in crisis. Professionally trained staff and volunteer counselors respond to 20,000 calls annually with crisis intervention counseling and resource referrals to service providers in the caller’s local community. We have access to more than 5,500 free or low-cost resources for youth and families across California.


Domestic Violence & Abuse

Guided by their mission to assure the safety and resiliency of children by strengthening families and their communities, Home Start, Inc., a non-profit child abuse prevention and treatment agency, has strengthened and developed San Diego’s families, communities, and systems of care since 1972.


The Hotline is contacted when a member of the San Diego community has a concern regarding potential abuse or neglect of a child. Upon notification of the concern (via phone or fax), the Hotline Social Worker does an immediate assessment of the referral. If the child is determined to be at risk, a social worker is assigned to investigate. Hotline staff are available 24 hours per day.


The Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline is dedicated to the prevention of child abuse. Serving the U.S. and Canada, the hotline is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with professional crisis counselors who—through interpreters—provide assistance in over 170 languages. The hotline offers crisis intervention, information, and referrals to thousands of emergency, social service, and support resources. All calls are confidential.


APS serves adults 65 and older and dependent adults 18 and older, who are harmed, or threatened with harm, to ensure their right to safety and dignity. APS investigates elder and dependent adult abuse, including cases of neglect and abandonment, as well as physical, sexual and financial abuse.

WRC is dedicated to providing the highest quality supportive services, counseling, shelter and education to North San Diego County women, children and men involved in or threatened by domestic violence or sexual assault.


The mission at Center for Community Solutions is to end relationship and sexual violence by being a catalyst for caring communities and social justice


The Rancho Coastal Humane Society (RCHS) Animal Safe House Program is a safety net for community members in crisis. By offering temporary pet boarding to the victims of domestic violence and to military veterans and seniors requiring hospitalization, RCHS keeps families together.

For a victim of domestic violence, finding a safe place for their pet can often mean the difference between staying in an abusive environment or leaving. With temporary shelter and vet care for their pet, these victims become survivors who ultimately reunite with their animal as they pursue a new life of safety and security.

24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, the National Domestic Violence Hotline provides essential tools and support to help survivors of domestic violence so they can live their lives free of abuse.

Contacts to The Hotline can expect highly-trained, expert advocates to offer free, confidential, and compassionate support, crisis intervention information, education, and referral services in over 200 languages.


RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network) is the nation's largest anti-sexual violence organization. RAINN created and operates the National Sexual Assault Hotline in partnership with more than 1,000 local sexual assault service providers across the country and operates the DoD Safe Helpline for the Department of Defense. RAINN also carries out programs to prevent sexual violence, help survivors, and ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice.


Provides information and support to victims of stalking. Monitors, protects and assists victims even in situations where evidence is insufficient to file criminal charges.

LGBTQ+ Resources

Fulfills the need for twenty-four hour access to counseling services for the LGBT community, especially the 9:00pm to 9:00am period when services are not typically available. During the day, callers using the Heidorn Lifeline will be transferred to the on-duty crisis counselor at The Center. People may also call the on-duty counselor directly at (619) 260-6380.

Through the vision, dedication, and hard work of our supporters, the North County LGBTQ Resource Center became a reality in November 2011. We come together to share ideas, resources, and expand our presence in the local community. We envision the Resource Center as a visible symbol of the LGBTQ community in North County San Diego. The Resource Center will support, build, educate, and improve the relationships of the LGBT community and our friends and allies. Services include support groups for youth, seniors, military service members, HIV/AIDS testing and prevention, counseling, civil rights advocacy, classes, and workgroups.


Trans Lifeline provides trans peer support for our community that’s been divested from police since day one. We’re run by and for trans people.

Substance abuse Resources

Alcoholics Anonymous is an international fellowship of men and women who have had a drinking problem. It is nonprofessional, self-supporting, multiracial, apolitical, and available almost everywhere. There are no age or education requirements. Membership is open to anyone who wants to do something about his or her drinking problem.


Narcotics Anonymous is a global, community-based organization with a multilingual and multicultural membership. NA was founded in 1953, and members hold nearly 76,000 meetings weekly in 143 countries today.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is the agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services that leads public health efforts to advance the behavioral health of the nation.
